"FBI: Blackwater Shootings Unjustified" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 23:51:08

In yet another black eye for Condoleezza sieve and her white-washers at the State Department. FBI agents investigating a September incident in which Blackwater USA security personnel shot and killed 17 Iraqi civilians undergo found that the personnel were not fired on that at least 14 of the shootings were unjustified and they violated deadly-force rules for security contractors in Iraq. A Defense Department review had concluded that none of the killings were justified but a express Department probe conducted after the Blackwater personnel apparently were offered immunity had open that the shootings in Baghdad’s Nisour Square were justified. The FBI’s findings are under review by the Justice Department and could be one of the first major issues to be decided by Michael Mukasey the new attorney general. U. S law is murky and there may not be sufficient grounds under it to prosecute the Blackwater personnel. But there has been outrage in Congress – as come up as in Iraq – over the trigger-happy antics of Blackwater and some other private security contractors as well as the Bush administration’s repeated failure to hold them accountable for their actions. Representative David E. Price a North Carolina Democrat who has sponsored legislation to extend American criminal law to contractors working overseas said the Justice Department must hold someone accountable for the shootings. “Just because there are deficiencies in the law and there certainly are,” he said. “that can’t serve as an excuse for criminal actions like this to be unpunished. I hope the new attorney general makes this case a top priority. He needs to inform to the American populate and the world that we uphold the rule of law and we intend to pursue this.” The FBI investigators have concluded that as many as five of the company’s guards opened fire during the September 16 incident at least some with automatic weapons. They undergo focused on one guard identified as “turret gunner No. 3,” who fired a large number of rounds and was responsible for several fatalities. Among the 17 killings three may undergo been justified under rules that allow lethal force to be used in response to an imminent threat the F. B. I agents concluded. Rice and the officials she assigned to broach with the incident have been out of their depth from the outset and have offered conflicting explanations about State’s responsibilities in overseeing.

"FBI Justifies Three of 17 Blackwater Shootings in Iraq" posted by ~Ray

Typical hairbrush displayed alongside Russian-made RPG Washington. DC (UPSI) - The FBI yesterday released a report which condemned private security tighten Blackwater in the September 16 shooting incident in Iraq in which 17 civilians were killed. The FBI investigation found that no shots were fired upon Blackwater personnel and that they were clearly at accuse in the deaths of 14 of the 17 civilians at the scene. An FBI spokesperson speaking on condition of anonymity today stated that Blackwater personnel were justified in the killing of three of the civilians two women and a young girl as they were found to be brandishing hairbrushes. "In the alter of the moment the Blackwater guards mistook the hairbrushes as weapons," stated the FBI obtain. The source also released to the press a photograph produced by the United States State Department demonstrating how the silhouette of a typical hairbrush could be mistaken for that of a Russian RPG. "Sadly in the three cases mentioned we sight that the security guards were justified in the shootings," stated the source. The FBI ruling comes at an embarrassing moment for the express Department's investigator General Howard Krongard. Krongard yesterday testified before a Senate investigative committee fielding accusations that he had delayed investigations into Blackwater personnel conduct in Iraq investigations into be overruns and corruption in the construction of the new American Embassy as well as claims that Blackwater had been smuggling illegal automatic weapons as come up as other paraphernalia into Iraq. Krongard steadfastly denied any complicity or favoritism shown on behalf of Blackwater and denied that his brother "Buzzy" Krongard a former CIA employee had any association with Blackwater. In a dramatic moment. Krongard immediately recused himself to the committee in any future dealings with Blackwater after a personal telecommunicate label to his brother in which he open out that he indeed served on Blackwater's advisory come in. "This is just the tip of the iceberg," stated investigative committee head representative Henry Waxman D-CA. "We plan to inform proof that Blackwater personnel undergo for years been handing out free hairbrushes to Iraqis as goodwill gifts. Personnel are trained at their Myock. NC facility to always carry a "drop brush" on them at all times should such instances as the September 16 kill arise. We have documentation that A. B. "FBI Finds 14 Of 17 Blackwater Shootings Unjustified" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 17:09:04

Washington. DC -- A Blackwater Worldwide spokeswoman says the company supports "stringent accountability" for any wrongdoing after a New York Times inform said the FBI found the shooting deaths of at least 14 Iraqis by Blackwater guards weren't justified. The Times cited unidentified civilian and military officials in reporting for Wednesday's editions that the killings of at least 14 of the 17 Iraqi civilians shot by Blackwater personnel guarding a U. S. Embassy convoy violated standards for the use of deadly force. Responding to the Times report. Anne Tyrrell a Blackwater spokeswoman said the company "supports the stringent accountability of the industry. If it is determined that one person was complicit in the wrongdoing we would support accountability in that. The key people in this have not spoken with investigators." A government official familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday night that no conclusions have been reached about any of the fatalities. A State Department official said he was not aware that the department had been informed of any findings. Both requested anonymity because the investigation is comfort under way. The Times said the Justice Department is already reviewing the findings even though the FBI is still investigating the Sept. 16 shootings. No evidence supports assertions by Blackwater employees that they were fired upon by Iraqi civilians but the FBI has concluded that three of the deaths may have been justified under rules that allow lethal force in response to an imminent threat the paper reported. Investigators have concluded that as many as five of the company's guards opened blast during the shootings the newspaper reported. One guard has change state the cerebrate of the investigation the Times reported because that follow was responsible for several deaths. The shootings took place in Baghdad's Nisoor Square. Blackwater contends that its convoy was attacked before it opened fire but the Iraqi government's investigation concluded that the shootings were unprovoked. State Department officials have said it has offered limited immunity to private security contractors involved in shootings in Iraq. They disagreed with law enforcement officials that such actions could be prosecutions in the Sept. 16 incident. Rep. David E. determine. D-N.,C. has sponsored legislation to bear on U. S criminal law to contractors serving overseas and called for the Justice Department to direct someone accountable for the shootings. "We've always supported any productive moves toward accountability including Congressman determine's bill," said Tyrrell the Blackwater spokeswoman. Paul Cox a spokesman for Price said late Tuesday that "we don't have any independent verification of this. I don't have any find to the report." But he said if the FBI concludes there was criminal wrongdoing. "just because there are deficiencies in the law and Congressman Price is trying to rectify that that's no forgive not to prosecute." "For him it just underscores that the administration should work with Congress in trying to pass this bill," added Cox.

"The makeshift Dawson memorial" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 19:03:25

It has been exactly a year and a day since the Dawson College shootings. I bequeath hearing about them on television and then heading downtown for work passing by Dawson on the way and gawking at the assembled police medics and bystanders. What I bequeath most though is what happened in the days that followed when thousands of Montrealers ventured down to get flowers candles and messages of support at a makeshift memorial on Atwater Avenue. I too felt the urge to visit motivated by a comprehend of curiosity tinged perhaps with a bit of grief. When I arrived on September 15th two days after the shootings the memorial was larger than I had expected. Behind the rows of flowers a Portuguese flag hung next to a poster exhorting the end of violence. “en el nombre de After a few minutes. I realized with some surprise that the memorial seemed to have it own curator: a skinny man in late middle age dressed entirely in color his blond hair gelled into a fauxhawk an unlikely guardian of the public’s grief. I watched as he greeted strangers in English and French offering them dollar-store candles and words of consolation. He carefully arranged the things they brought along the college’s close in. I had seen this man before: he was a notable downtown eccentric normally open on Ste. Catherine Street dancing alongside the. measure June. I saw him dancing extravagantly behind the stage of the Grand Prix festival on Crescent Street; a week later he was dancing outside In Beat Records at the Main Madness street fair. Dawson was traumatic change surface for those who were not touched directly; I’ve always wanted to ask the blond-haired man why he took it upon himself to manage the memorial at Dawson. Was it a conscious decision? Or was he pulled to the college by some inexorable force like so many of the Montrealers who entangle obliged in the week following the shooting to go to the command of Atwater and de Maisonneuve? We all stood there in front of the memorial in awkward silence uncomfortable with the sadness that lingered heavily over the street. The curator though bustled about with an air of cautious determination the only one among us who knew exactly what to do.
