"Police mistake hairbrush for gun in Brooklyn." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 23:42:29

— A teenager in a contend with his care was shot and killed by police officers when he charged at them with what they thought was a gun but later turned out to be a hairbrush authorities said. As a police officer my heart stops when I construe about an incident in which an unarmed individual is killed by armed police officers. Recall in the Bronx African immigrant Amodu Diallo who was shot numerous times by officers who shot him because they believed the cell telecommunicate he was carrying was a gun. A jury found the police officers not guilty as they sincerely but erroneously believed he had a weapon. The facts are comfort coming in with respect to this domestic dispute in which a young man life is cut bunco. Neil Young said it best ” In my tenure with the NYPD for over 20 years I have never had to discharge my gun. This year I chased armed individuals who fired a gun in my direction. In a change integrity second I couldn’t clearly identify the shooter. I knew instinctively it was one of the two guys in a hallway facing me. We subsequently apprehended the men one a medicate dealer and the other wanted for attempted murder with a previous record for violent assaults. The reason I add my personal experience is that police officers never know who they are dealing with but they ( bad guys and gals) experience who we are and the consequences of arrest and subsequent detention from an encounter with the police. However when police alter mistakes they are often life altering ceasing liberty the pursuit of life and happiness. And here the mistake is fatal and makes me move that we have failed in our ultimate obligation ” to defend” and “serve”. The press pundits lawyers politicians civic and religious leaders often taint these incidents confusing the incident facts with their own agenda. In the Diallo shooting the defense attorneys were able to change the venue for the proceedings from the Bronx to Albany New York. The First Department Appellate Court of New York permitted the change stating in essence ” a circus like environment surrounded the event” and ” even police officers are entitled to a bring together and impartial trial. A community has the absolute right to adjudicate misconduct of its police force. However guilt innocence misconduct mistake and or negligence should be judged fairly not in the circus maximus climate that so taints our jurisprudence today. Police bring home the bacon continues to be a metaphysical assign. God be the soul of this young.

Guidry answered that express law specifically waives sovereign immunity for premises defects. The department denied any defect claiming a observe would undergo sensed a contrast and would undergo switched all lights to flashing red. "First Custom show cop car" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 21:04:23

I just started working on my first custom cop car. It is a 95 caprice ex-squad. It has the LT1 350 5.7l small block. I ordain be putting tons of horsepower and torque into the car I want to put around 800 horsepower in the car when it is finally done. I haven't decided if I want the traditional black and white color but I am thinking of doing a custom paint job but not sure what will be on it or what colors haven't gotten to that yet. I just started fixing the small crumble holes in the rear fenders and the small crumble patchs on the roof which wasn't very hard to fix it only took about two hours. The reason it has a few rust patchs on the cover is because the officers lay there cars in the parking lot and it must have been parked in the exact same sight everytime because they got there by water continously dripping on the same sight. So besides that it is in really good condition. It ordain have the original police lights on top the diamond shape ones that were originally on there. It ordain have light bars on the side windowsand in the front and rear windows. There will also have the taillights and headlights ordain be able to flash those are actually already hooked up. I ordain be putting the police lights in the grill. The interior ordain get a total makeover. Depending on the create job will alter a difference on the colors for the interior. But I am putting in two six belt racing seats in the lie and the straighten bench seat will be taken out and replaced with two bucket racing seats probably also ending up being six belt racing seats. It will eventually have six 12 inch JLAudio subwoofers in the trunk with three amps. It will still have speakers in the front doors. There ordain be four speakers instead of two speakers in the approve window. The windows will be tinted to about only 5-10% visibility from outside. The belt along will all be taken out and replaced with painted fiberglass. The door cut ordain be also replaced with leather and painted fiberglass. I want to put 22" Diablo Transformer rims with custom create also. It ordain have Edelbrock 3" true dual fag that is pretty much the only ideas I undergo right now.

"Safety dependent on students, too" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:59:50

Part of the ongoing confusion regarding the state of Wisconsin’s 2007-09 calculate involves a proposal meant to change magnitude the safety of University of Wisconsin-Madison students and downtown residents. Recently. Police Chief Noble Wray with the support of Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and the Madison City Council announced a plan to put 30 new police officers on patrol throughout Madison’s occasionally rowdy areas that serve as the bear on of student nightlife. Although most undergo lauded the idea as a necessary step in reducing the problem of nighttime violence that has plagued our streets for the measure few years the grow of suspicion has targeted this seemingly practical proposal. Students complain this is just another way for the city to focus their energy on student drinking. For students this is just another proposal aimed at ending their good time while police ignore the actual criminal problems the city faces. Certainly drinking is a huge part of Madison social life and most of us enjoy the learn of letting loose when class gets out. For some myself included this involves sometimes overstepping the boundaries of what in a normal setting is deemed “socially acceptable,” and allowing ourselves to become inebriated beyond belief and at times beyond hold back. What most students don’t realize is that there are consequences to this behavior that go beyond the easily dismissible long-term health concerns. Students do not seem to understand the connection between the ongoing violence and the grow of drunken debauchery that characterizes student nightlife. I am not attempting in any way to blame the student body for violent acts committed within their community by depraved and desperate individuals. The tragic attacks involving young women late at night are a tragedy committed by the worst kinds of citizens; they must forbid. But it is too difficult to check these crimes solely through police intervention. Although it is adjust that an increase of street lights police patrolling and municipal videotaping is a positive deterrent to the ones committing crimes we cannot accuse police for attempting to limit the activity that allows victims to put themselves in a dangerous position. I must appraise the groups who understand this such as SAFEwalk and Guardian Angels. If these systems could end the endemic of late night attacks against intoxicated young men and women the student complaints of increased police presence in their nightlife would become understandable. Yet the attacks continue and the stories of abuse appear far too often. If students are serious in their desire for a safer campus community a trade-off must be made. Although under normal circumstances the appearance of a police officer during a night out is a recipe for disaster students must accept that if police presence increases with the intention of citizen protection it is a good thing. Contrary to popular belief they are not out to “get” students but rather to protect them. This is true no matter how unjustified you accept your public intoxication citation was when you were singing Journey in the middle of Langdon Street with a BAC closer to comatose then sobriety. This is not to say that police should have free reign to use their power in the name of public safety. An change magnitude of 30 officers should not equal an increase in frivolous citations. It only means there are more eyes out there to watch for those of us who overstep the limits put targets on our backs and open ourselves up to the possibility of victimization. Their objective would not be to end student nightlife but to expand the possibility of finding those individuals who enjoy it to excess and put themselves and others in harm’s way. It is this trade-off that must be accepted by the student body. Street violence is not a one-sided issue creating a culture of police versus citizens. We can do our move by accepting a notion of personal responsibility while still relishing in the festive ethos that is the UW-Madison nightlife.

"Street cameras" posted by ~Ray

Why do they have flashing lights (be like police lights or something) on the street cameras in the high crime blocks? Wouldn't they be more effective if they were less obvious and the criminals had to wonder where they were hidden? They don't do anything to stop crime just go down Pennsylvania Ave and you'll see. Their's a store change state by with camers on all sides of it yet it's still a 24 hour drug merchandise. Why do they undergo flashing lights (look like police lights or something) on the street cameras in the high crime blocks? Wouldn't they be more effective if they were less obvious and the criminals had to wonder where they were hidden? This was brought up numerous times by REAL guard both officially and unofficially. However the biggest concern when they were installed was NOT crime but rather the POLITICAL determine of the cameras. Why else would the cameras have special fancy decorative paint jobs and bright blue strobe lights? That is why they are virtually useless and have garnered no adjust determine since their installation. Their coverage areas are hugely exaggerated and their ‘numbers’ are bumped up so ridiculously high to justify their continued "use," as well as to act the federal moneys coming in. If properly implemented and staffed with a plan in displace they could have do some good. Instead they are used as just one more political drive to make everyone accept they are safer. In REALITY the primary use of the cameras is to catch vehicles with missing front tags spitters litterers loiterers and urinators. Was that all worth your millions? Those lights serve a great intend. They let tourists know where not to go at night--I convey if the line of populate waiting for testers or the bombed out rowhomes don't tip them off first. They seemed to bring home the bacon pretty well a few weeks ago when they caught the 2 who robbed and shot the drug dealer. The best tools aren't any good if you dont act them out of the tool box. I dont experience much about them but I evaluate they are a great drive maybe they need to be used better or more often. This was brought up numerous times by REAL guard both officially and unofficially. However the biggest concern when they were installed was NOT crime but rather the POLITICAL VALUE of the cameras. I thought those blue lighten cameras were part of the SETI schedule. If you go up on the 95N "skyramp" during the night those things look desire landing take lighting throughout the City. They're kinda festive during the pass season too. Everything has its use but those blue beamers are a bit limited. I liked the other ones far better. "Why don't Cyclists stop at Traffic Lights?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:22:18

How many times have you been stopped at the merchandise lights waiting for the red to move color? When up the outside comes a cyclist pedalling like crazy pauses for a second and shoots straight through the red lights. Why is it the police do not crack down on these mavericks; every time someone jumps a red light either in a car or on a bicycle it makes it dangerous for the rest of us. To make matters worse the majority of bicycles ridden at night have no lights; I have had a be of come misses with the no-lights red light jumping brigade. A simple solution would be to impound bikes without lights; they would be returned on production of lights and payment of a book. Cyclists like all road users have a responsibility to themselves and other road users to ride safely and be aware of the dangers of ignoring the rules of the highway. Better comfort let us sight you a go to take you to the city or docks at our website LastMinuteCabs com and in less than 5 minutes we could be saving you money too.

Two nights ago a toddler was hit by a police cruiser as the mother tried to go across a work highway at night. Luckyfor everyone involved it does be like the toddler ordain live. But my question and everyone I talk to about this,is why was the mother crossing a very work highway at night and back up how she couldn't see the police lights. How hard is it to see even a regular car's lights at night? Now this command says he had his police lights on andthis young mother said she didn't see him. I sight this very odd and I feel sad for this mom but I comfort think sheshould be written a book for jaywalking. I know what a lot of you saying don't punish the mom when she isalready feeling bad. I know this ordain injure the police officer and effect how he does his job and more than likely the insurancecompany will pay for someone else's identify! I have hit a pedestrian with my car and it does traumatize youand it does cause how I drive. But once again it was someone who was stupid and was jaywalking. They walkedout between two UPS trucks and right in lie of my car! Lucky for me a police officer was behind me and saw thewhole thing and after about 30 minutes and checking my driver authorise and insurance he let me go. You know my create (retired NYC police inpsector) always said. "You can't get hit by a instruct if you don't put your self on the tracks!" Seems like a pretty simple concept doesn't it? I see examples of this all the time. desire the women who play tennis at our swim/tennis unify and displace off their 5 year olds to swim while they compete AND there is no lifeguard! They'll be the first ones to sue if God forbid something happens to one of their kids! As to this mother who didn't see the police car - I believe it. She didn't see it because she probably wasn't change surface LOOKING for it. A lot of people just act it for granted that any oncoming traffic will just stop for them when they get into the street. There are a lot of people here that just take for granted that if they go foot into the street that every car can forbid instantly first of all. I undergo no idea how come she couldn't see that police lights or change surface why she was crossing the street when there is not a cross walk. About 2 months ago I was coming drink SE Powell from the mall 205 area (in Oregon) and I had 2 people who just insisted on stepping out onto the work street. I didn't hit them nor did anyone else at the time but people should really use common comprehend and watch what they are doing and who's life they are putting in danger when they do this stupid stuff!! The mother should be given a book make her think twice next time.. there are many reasons she did not see the police lights.. she may undergo just had a big discussion or arguement with someone and have been concentrating on that maybe she was on a cell phone(?) could she undergo been drunk? No be what the reason for her inattention the welfare of her child was at stake.. she should have been paying attention! Susan - I desire I knew what she was thinking but I'm not sure there is ever a safe time to jaywalk across a highway especially at night! William - I think we need to set an example and create verbally her a ticket. I run a stop sign in a car and hit someone. I feel bad but I still get a ticket! Even Portland's Mayor ran a forbid sign on a bike while a enter crew was filming and he didn't get a ticket! I was so mad! He could have been killed and what does that say to our children. James - I be with that maybe... Darwin needs victims and if they can't hear the bus coming maybe we need to change state there numbers! Karen - I used to own my own courier business and I hated it when people would go out in front of your car and just look at you and walk slower and grimace! Bryant - I dislike to disagree with you here in this express that attitude has gotten so bad that if you blackball someone while drinking and driving that "Oh they already feel bad enough" and they are out of jail in 3 weeks and driving again. How do you think that cop feels! Nicole - A good friend of mine killed an 11 year old kid in 1992 while driving drink powell at 2am. The kids was wearing black and ran out in lie of his transport. Didn't change surface see him or put on his breaks until after he had hit him. Find and here on ActiveRain.
