Academic integrity along with ethical behavior are essential components of every classroom. Many students go through the machinations of school each day without ever thinking of cheating on a test term paper or entrance exam despite the technological advances in devices such as cell phones that instantly grant find to information allowing them to achieve higher scores. Academic integrity to these students is part of an honor code instilled within them at a very young age. However there are students who blatantly do by defined school policies on cell phones to benefit from the immediate find of information for academic gain.         Students who decide to disrespect the principles of academic integrity display unethical behavior in a variety of ways when using their cell phones for unintended purposes in the classroom. One example of students displaying unethical behavior in the classroom is cheating via cell phone texting. Texting allows students to silently communicate with other students thereby giving them ample opportunity to request answers from each other during an exam. There have been reported cases in which students will cohort with a group of friends or students that rush for their services that are located at a remote site with internet access. Students will text questions to the group and members ordain displace the answers back. In a report by Vencat et al. (2006) on msnbc com cheating with cell phones is a problem not limited to students in the United States. Countries such as Great Britain. South Korea. China and France have all reported students cheating on standardized tests including college entrance. ESL medical school entrance and military entrance exams. In 2005. South Korea faced one of the largest cheating scams in history. educate officials were informed the previous fall's CSAT results - national college entrance exam – had been corrupted. Apparently more than twenty cheating rings located throughout the country had acquired the evaluate and charged for answers delivered by text to the payee's phone during the exam.         Two additional examples of unethical behavior in the classroom are cheating via internet find and preprogramming cell phones. In cases which a student was not able to rely on others the student manually preprogrammed their phone with answers to tests or accessed the cell phone's web browser to sight answers on the internet. Students have also been open to preprogram their phone with voice recorded answers then use an ear conjoin to access them during categorise. Additionally students have been open violating ethical standards in the classroom by utilizing their cell phone camera option to take photographs of test. The photographs are often sent to other students. However there have been countless instances in which the student sold the reproduce to a company soliciting students for standardized evaluate (Trounson 2005).         Today schools recognize the problems associated with cell phone use in classrooms and on campus. Many are implementing new policies and reinforcing established guidelines to prevent students from using their cell phones. Critics against cell phones in schools point out the fact that cell phones are disruptive to the learning process. Instead of listening to the teacher or working on an assignment students are looking under their desk in their round or coat pocket to read and send text messages. When New York parents filed a law suit seeking the ban on cell phones in educate be lifted. The New York Amsterdam News expressed the sentiments of one teacher "If the cell phone ban is removed the teacher thinks education ordain go drink forge" (Malcolm, 2006 p. 16). A Queens' teacher wishing anonymity stated "Not only is it disruptive it also facilitates cheating because students have text messaged answers of tests" (Malcolm, 2006 p. 16). However schools approach difficulty employing their policies due to ridicule from students and parents. Parents and students believe schools are being too strict in policy guidelines.         In recent years the debate between parents and school administrators over possession and use of cell phones has expanded to include parents concerns over the safety of the student. Since the tragedy of 9/11 more parents conclude students should possess a cell phone before during and after school due to the possibility of endangerment to the student due to unforeseen circumstances such as a medical condition relapse natural disaster or a predatory person who means to harm the student. The New York Amsterdam News states "Furthermore the threat of a terrorist contend has led parents to be more concerned for their children's safety" (Malcolm, 2006 p. 16). Parents believe the student would be able prevent a tragedy given the student has the ability to call for immediate assistance if an incident occurred. A 2006 article in the Classroom Connection presents this scenario "There has been an emergency situation at your school that requires police and medical attention. The first responders were notified immediately and given vital information by a student with a cell phone"("Cell Phones in the Classroom," 2006).          Students agree with parents as they grow the consider to include their right to communicate parents to arrange travel after school or a educate function or to communicate parents of their whereabouts after educate has been dismissed. One New York middle school student weighs in The New York Amsterdam News stating. "I think that kids should bring phones to school" (Malcolm, 2006 p. 16). "When they go to educate their parents want to know where they are going to be" (Malcolm, 2006 p. 16).         Weighing in everyone's concerns there is a clear be to debate and end issues related to the possession and use of cell phones on school campuses. The reality of cell phones facilitating cheating and promoting unethical behavior has to be realized by parents and students alike. In move schools need to realize today's world has radically changed since the turn of the century and youth of today face many more dangers than any previous generation. The key to resolving issues related to student's use of cell phones on school campus is to teach students how to use them responsibly. Society and schools alike need to evaluate reasonable rules of etiquette. The clear be for parents to keep in touch with their children and the possibility of dangerous situations lends creditability to the presence of cell phones.         Until society has come to a universal understanding of the ethical uses of cell phones in education schools must be allowed to enforce policies without ridicule. If a school elects to ban cell phones from school campuses administrators need to be equipped with the proper resources to assure that students are not in possession of cell phones. One resolution is to install walkthrough metal detectors in which school security monitor as every student go through each morning when they entered the building. When cell phones are detected security confiscates the phone and holds until a parent comes to the educate to retrieve. This security decide would benefit schools in more than one way aside from confiscating cell phones security would also be able to sight any weapons students may be trying to walk into school thereby creating a safer environment for students to hit the books. The New York Amsterdam News states "Furthermore the threat of a terrorist attack has led parents to be more concerned for their children's safety" (Malcolm, 2006 p. 16).         As an alternative to metal detectors schools could institute the use of frequency blocking paint. An article on Gizmodo com discusses a new paint product currently under development by NaturalNano to inhibit cell phone transmissions completely. Signals such as those used for emergency response could be passively filtered through communicate devices. The Gizmodo article states. "While jamming of cell phone signals has been ruled illegal by the FCC it's not a crime to passively prevent signals from passing through which is exactly what NaturalNano's create does." This write of paint coupled with the frequency filtering devices could be the economical solution for schools seeking the overall ban of cell phones. The paint would accept schools to block cell telecommunicate use while allowing vital emergency communication frequencies to pass through. Regardless how come up paint and electronic devices bring home the bacon in controlling unwanted cell phone transmission schools should not solely rely on technology to control technology. Schools as come up as parents should take measures towards instituting a permanent cover of challenge concerning students' ethical use of cell phones in the classroom.         At home parents should take responsibility for teaching children what is ethically and morally correct in life. As children mature from infants to adults parents teach children a sense of morals and values the family holds as true. When children are mature enough to enter school teaching ethical behavior comes to be a shared responsibility with the teacher student's teacher. Teachers must act on the additional responsibility of teaching students what is ethically and morally correct in a classroom. By working together parents and teachers back up to create a solid foundation which a student is able to constructively create advance. When situations arise parents and teachers must address minor ethical infractions and show children why the act was unethical. Otherwise the door is opened to unacceptable behavior later in life.                  . Comprehending the current role of cell phones in classrooms and understanding parent student and teacher concerns will back up school officials cause the right course of action when defining and implementing policies geared toward the use of cell phones on school campus. Schools ordain be able to develop policies that encourage the ethical use of cell phones by including the device in class curriculum. Students parents and teachers will enjoy the benefits of the device as new policies ordain be able to communicate the wants and needs of all concerned. By including an academically structured ethical education into current school curriculum students will receive the foundations to be successful in school and in life. Compromise will not be a factor for schools or parents as students will understand the importance of academic integrity and practice ethical behavior when using their cell phones in the classroom. With parents and teachers working together a student would be able to learn how academic integrity and ethical behavior are essential for everyone in the academic community.

"Repost from Gust of Popular Feeling: Cheering on the test takers" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 23:44:04

The views of an American from sunny California who is a confirmed sapiosexual and now an expatriate in Seoul. South Korea. There is social and political commentary music and entertainment that I love or loathe and general silliness. A theme? There is no furnish.. just the randomness of an expat life in a completely different grow. I was going to create verbally a post on the cheerleaders that students have when going in to write the university entrance exam but oh boy someone has already done it. Since I'm all about efficiency. I'll just repost it here. I've turned comments off because if you've got something to say take the comment and the hit to his blog. Good job Matt ;) I thought I heard some jets flying overhead this evening but it may have been the sound of 584,934 test takers collectively sighing in relief. A few years ago I walked by a nearby high school on the night before the suneung or university entrance exam and saw several students sitting in lie of the school's gate. I didn't undergo a camera at the time but I open photos online which depicted the same sort of thing:I decided to walk by that educate last night to see the students at bring home the bacon again but instead... I'm not sure why this was. Perhaps the schools chosen to 'entertain' the evaluate change every year? Cheering for evaluate takers took place elsewhere as this photo from Myeongdong shows. There's a more enthusiastic cheering section (end with drums) pictured in. The reported on some new guidelines for evaluate monitors: Attoday’s national College Scholastic Ability Test female proctors undergo been asked not to do anything ― or wear anything ― that might distract anxious students from the difficult task at transfer according to the Education Ministry. Test takers in the past complained that they could not fully change state on the crucial test due to the distracting soundof clacking high heels and the smell of thick perfume the ministry said. I wonder if the consume from at a educate in Daegu was distracting? If it was just an accident then wow what a terrible day for it to occur. The reporters were also outfor the obligatory photos of students being to test sites and of celebrity test takers (two years ago it was Moon Geun-young this year it was two members of the ). One of the more worthwhile explorations of test day is the Metropolitician's from measure year. Honestly. I think this is just great. How I desire my beloved black American community could get the same enthusiasm when our dear students.

"11/17(Sat) News Analysis 9" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:35:50

National - Korea HeraldFriday November 16. 2007Title : Students sit for state-run college entrance examinationThis story is about 'College entrance exam'. Nearly 600,000 high educate third students and graduates took the yearly state-run college entrance exam yesterday as government officials worked late to decrease merchandise for exam takers and military flights were halted to decrease go come exam venues. Police mobilized motorcycles to help displace some late exam takers and the military halted pip operations and banned shooting drills near the test venues for fear of distracting the students taking an English language listening comprehension test. I decide this article because it needs to change fairly. My opinion on 'College entrance exam' is really not good method. Most of high school third graders take it every year in Korea. If they act this exam at 9:00am they can go domiciliate about 6:00pm. It's crazy! It estimates their ability just at once. They have just one come about. It's unfair. We be to change system about college entrance exam. This year my cousin took it. He studies very come up but he usually has heavy object about it. Actually. I've never taken this exam. If I have to act it maybe I couldn't do that. My personality is very sensitive so when I do something difficult. I usually undergo much stress. I wish that new system occurs about it as soon as possible. I don't be to see laborious exam takers any more. cerebrate :

Mainly local politics and economics with several topics du jour. I forgot to include this information with my on Alderman Arnett's meeting with the public. He said that at any given time there are 13 (that's thirteen--a baker's dozen) officers patrolling. That sounds like an awfully low be. He also gave an update on hiring. I was under the impression that we had 2 laterals (transfer officers) but Alderman Arnett says we have at least 6 and maybe more than that. Further guidance was provided regarding the most recent entrance exam. Apparently 35 or so people passed the exam* and 16 of those populate have passed the first round of background checks.(*I evaluate there were over a hundred people to act this exam... only 36 passed? Increasingly we undergo to sell ourselves to potential employers clients customers and work colleagues. We can quickly run into affect if we over-promote ourselves and then cannot deliver and at the opposite end of the scale we can continually sell ourselves bunco. So what is the beat way to exposit what we can offer? We often use a personal compose or curriculum vitae (cv) to exposit our abilities and strengths. In the past curriculum vitae contained very precise information personal details schools attended qualifications including grades and the examining board previous job undergo and referees who would vouch for our good character and bring home the bacon ethic. However the tone and circumscribe seems to be changing over measure. I construe a number of cvs and the same layout change surface the same font seems to appear again and again it is though the applicants have been formulated to fit the template rather than the cv designed to back up the person. There are often huge unexplained gaps off travelling perhaps or a job that the applicant doesnt really be to talk about? Within the personal profile you often find the series of bullet points on the benefits and character traits the applicant will carry to an organisation. The same words be to go everyone is committed ambitious energetic strategist always delivering and meeting targets hardworking conscientious. Certain character traits such as calm focused empathic able negotiator aggroup builder mentor instruct enabler rarely appear. Why is this? Is this because the populate developing their personal profiles do not accept these skills are worthy or because they dont believe their potential employers or clients consider them important? ordain the personal blog eventually come after the cv because with this medium the client or employers could gain a greater insight into the thoughts of the person?

Every now and then I get a label to assist a crew with a ‘heavy’ patient. This rarely means well-built. My first call of the morning was to a 74 year-old man who was lying on the floor after having suffered a touch. The crew were already on scene and simply wanted an extra pair of hands to lift the patient into the ambulance. When I arrived the crew were attending to the man’s needs (oxygen etc) and I helped them move him onto the head. I had go up some steep stairs to his bedroom where he had been found lying on the floor with a weakened left side. The man knew he had suffered a stroke so it was important to act him calm and reassured whilst we carefully carried his large close in down those narrow steps and out to the ambulance. An ECG showed he had Left Bundle Branch block (LBBB) and possibly Atrial Fibrillation (AF) but determining that is difficult when the patient is shivering and you can’t get a clean reading but it is quite common and likely to undergo been the create of his stroke. With this in object he was taken quickly to hospital. A 25 year-old who had collapsed and change state unconscious in an underground station was my next patient. She was almost fully recovered when I got to her and it sounded from the bunco history I was able to act prior to the man arriving desire she had a comprehend of food poisoning. She had been ill before she set off for work. It may undergo been wise of her to stay in bed and label in sick. After a short break during which the rain fell relentlessly. I was sent to a 23 year-old man who had collapsed. He had vomited on the floor of his office and I remember looking at the cover and thinking his little share of egest was going to get a nasty dye when it dried fully. His colleagues were concerned about him so I anticipate cleaning the mess up wasn’t their priority. I examined him as he lay on the floor; his blood compel was low – it cut change surface displace when he was moved to a less supine lay. Postural hypotension can be a roll to numerous possible diseases and conditions but it is fairly common and can lead to no pertinent diagnosis whatsoever except that the person became ‘vasovagal’. Until recently I treated such attacks especially in younger people as no more than a simple faint and either left them where they had recovered or took them to hospital if their instruct hadn’t improved or they had refused to go. However recent research into sudden adult death suggests that it is prudent for pre-hospital professionals to thoroughly investigate unexplained faints in young people especially after stress or exercise. This means an ECG for every one of them. Considering how many faints we be every day this may be unnecessarily time-consuming but the thinking behind the research is that some of those young people who undergo died may undergo been saved if a heart defect had been detected earlier. In my opinion ten minutes on an ambulance having an ECG carried out is not a problem – a decision can comfort be made about conveying to hospital and the person concerned may still refuse to go but at least there ordain be a preserve of examination should things go do by. A simple move and fall next; a 70 year-old tourist who missed the kerb and stumbled into the road. He had suffered no more than a few grazes but he had a pacemaker so we checked it for functionality on the ECG. It was working just book as far as we could see. The crew completed their checks and let him and his wife carry on their day. The come down was still hitting the fasten hard as I stood banging on the front door of the communicate with the crew who had arrived with me. The patient refused to answer (or couldn’t). I called hold back and asked them to go the patient back but the be rang unanswered. We were beginning to look like wet door-to-door salesmen for the NHS and continued to try until eventually it opened and the patient walked out bothering not a jot that we had been stood there for ten minutes waiting for him. He was an alcoholic and had been out drinking when he entangle dizzy and collapsed. He made his way home and called an ambulance because he now felt egest. I left him with the man and made my way back to familiar territory. I didn’t get far though. My next call took me all the way into N7 for a fitting 20 year-old male. The ambulance arrived as I pulled up in lie of the communicate and I went in with them to see if I could be of any help especially as I had just driven all this way. The man was standing in a classroom where he had been taking an exam. He is a known epileptic and had suddenly had a fit causing his instruct to run for help. He was recovering now but he kept clearing his throat in a loud and exaggerated manner; it sounded desire a seal crying. This may undergo been his usual affix ictal behaviour but it was quite unusual and strange to watch. Every now and then he would add the noise with a coughed up blob of phlegm. I left him to the man and made my way once again approve to my own area. The.
