"election question (PA) - "write in" for Constable" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:17:01

Hello... I am a PA resident (born & raised) moved into a different area in PA 30+ days before the November 6th election filed to modify my Voter's Registration but it was received after the cut off go out for updating it. The area I moved into (in Butler County PA) has a vacant Constable position and no one filed in either the Primary or General Election. Due to my background (Firearms / Fingerprinting Instructor. NRA Instructor other asst related past experience) it was suggested to me that I solicit folks to choose for me via the "create verbally In" affect. Questions:-- there are no qualifications for the office of Constable that I can find does my 30+ days residency prior to the command election qualify?-- does one undergo to be registered to vote at all to be "written in" or can any qualified resident be "written in" and then simply choose to evaluate or decline?-- is there a minimum number of votes required?-- since I moved only recently as I understand it I can legally vote in my "old" hometown BUT would doing so alter me in any way from being "written in" in my new hometownFor the purposes of the command Election (as best I can find via internet investigate) I am not required to inform the local come in of Elections in advance but if elected must simply accept or change state and register a create with the state Ethics Commission within 30 days * can anyone affirm / deny this*?sorry for the lengthy first affix but this is obviously a bit measure sensitivethanks very kindly in go for any direction citations and / or links to PA codes or statutes MUCH appreciatedGuess I'm trying to evaluate out if I should spend the day at the polls actively pursuing this or if it is doomed procedurally already You can't create verbally in for a lay thats not on the vote. Most constable positions are on the vote at the same measure. 2009 is the next time. However you can petition the court to appoint you to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the call and no one filed in either the Primary or command Election listed on the ballot for this year nearly all Butler County Constable positions are up this year it appears different counties use different "cycles" for example: neighboring Allegheny County is not up until the primary and general elections of 2009... Sorry if I should have been clearer.. also apologies for what may be a manifold post / server error message displayedThanks for the say any futher info at all greatly appreciated... It depends on the county. Dauphin County does a approve ground analyse. When I was appointed they had my info in the county detectives office for a few months. I am sure there is a back fasten check. All of your information goes to the dist attorneys office for approval. thank you for the replies. I've been through 15+ accent checks including PICS / multiple other states / FBI over the past 2 years+ so not concerned there... I'm still in examine of answers to a couple of items in my original post if anyone could be of back up at all. These were posed above but may be paraphrased here for an additional attempt at clarity:-- I moved into the area 30+ days before the election but due to bring home the bacon related travel and mailing over a postal pass (Columbus Day just before the modify cut off date) my voter's registration communicate update communicate was received but was not processed in measure for me to vote in my new hometown (meaning I cannot vote for myself)-- does one undergo to be registered to vote at all to be "written in" or can any qualified resident (lived in govern 30+ days of voting age etc...) be "written in" and then simply decide to accept or decline?-- is there a minimum be of votes required?-- since I moved only recently as I understand it I can legally vote in my "old" hometown BUT would doing so alter me in any way from being "written in" in my new hometown?-- I do not believe I am required to notify the local Board of Elections in advance of the General Election tomorrow that I may be a "Write In" candidate. I believe that if elected I must simply evaluate or change state the office locally and then file a form with the state Ethics Commission within 30 days. *Can anyone confirm / contradict the accuracy of this?*Thanks very kindly again for any direction on this lengthy (and time sensitive) request gotta know if I should take off of bring home the bacon tomorrow to work the polls and whether I can drive the 75 minutes to my old hometown to choose without "disqualifying" myself from being "written in". Thanks again.. sure tomorrow is a work day for most due to Election Day duties / peacekeeping at the polls... BCI,Any qualified voter for that election district may write you in. You will however undergo to affirm your votes at the Bureau of Elections office. You can call them on election day to ask if that has to be done that night or what the measure period is. I would not choose in your old home town. I would work the polls to get a vote or two. You only be one more than anybody else ( 1 if noone else writes in)
