The first 450 people who show up at Cleveland’s convention center Saturday and surrender a working handgun will receive a card.
Police who will be at the center to verify the guns are turned in safely asked for the weapons to be brought in unloaded and in a clear plastic bag.
This article caught my eye this morning for two reasons. First. I was born and raised in Cleveland and second because I was offended by the anti-gun schedule the city leaders have come up with.
For decades Cleveland has and is a strong Democrat stronghold (64%) big on social programs has some of the nation’s highest taxes are soft on crime and of course anti-gun.
The most common employment industries for males are metal and metal products construction hospitality food service and maintenance. For females it is office work or healthcare.
The homicide evaluate quoted by the city officials is shocking and does put Cleveland on track to be third in the nation other crimes like rape (445) robbery (4,288) and assaults (2,296) are even worse.
So like most liberal cities the and the refuse to admit that drastic social and economic changes need to take displace. Rather they couple their anti-gun ideology with the high poverty rate to take further advantage of their citizens by giving them the choice of disarming themselves to be even less protected or filling up their gas tanks (maybe a couple of times) so they can go to their low paying jobs in order to support their families.
If Cleveland’s leaders were really serious about stopping crime they would incourage law abidding residents to be trained armed and working in cooperation with the police to stop a majority of these crimes which happen to be drug related either directly or indirectly.
So much for thinking outside of the box Mayor Jackson and letting Cleveland return to it’s old nickname. “the mistake on the lake”.
